Each
question carries 20 marks.
Q1. (a) Discuss the true stress strain curve for
ductile and brittle material
(b) Explain in detail about Tresca
maximum shear strain energy criterion
Q2.
Determine the maximum force required
for extruding a cylindrical aluminium billet of 25mm diameter and 50mm length
to a final diameter of 5mm. Tensile
yield stress for aluminium =170N/mm2.
Also calculate the power loss in friction.
Q3.
What do you understand by draft on
forgings and why it is provided? Derive an expression for working loads for
plain strain forging of strip under conditions of well lubrications.
Q4.
Determine the workload and frictional
power loss for simple forward extrusion with a flat face die. Discuss various parameters affecting
extrusion process.
Q5.
Draw a sketch of the rolling operation for a strip and analyze
the force and stresses during rolling.
Discuss the aspects of friction and velocity during the process.
Q6.
(a) Elaborate the process of heat
generation and heat transfer in metal forming processes.
(b) Discuss in brief the various types
of lubricants used in rolling and cold drawing.
Q7. Differentiate various methods of tube
drawing in terms of characteristics, advantages and disadvantages and
applications. Discuss the various
parameters that affect the process of tube drawing.
