Paper: Fundamentals of Molecular Biology and Genetics-II
Time Allowed: Three Hours] [Maximum Marks: 75
Note:- (1) Students are required to attempt FIVE questions in all.
(2) Attempt at least two questions from each section.
(3) Question No. 9 is compulsory question. All questions carry equal marks.
SECTION-A
1. (A) What is the difference between bacterial and eukaryotic chromosome?
(B) Describe the DNA replication in Eukaryotes, with particular emphasis on the use of different DNA polymerases for leading and lagging strand synthesis.
2. (A) Describe differences in the prokaryotic and eukaryotic transcription
(B) List the important steps in homologous recombination in which Rec A participates.
3. (A) Describe the contribution of each of the following:
(i) Franklin
(ii) Meselson and Stahl.
(B) Explain initiation of replication in Prokaryotes. Discuss the role of different enzymes in the process.
4. (A) Describe the structure of E. coli RNA polymerase and discuss different components in RNA synthesis on DNA template.
(B) Write a note on post-transcriptional modifications of the initial transcript at 5' and 3' ends.

8. (A) What are mutagens? Explain the role of Base Analogs, Intercalating Agents and U.V. Radiations as mutagens.
(B) Explain prokaryotic gene expression in relation to His operon.
