(ii) Nature, length, and position of side chain in cholesterol.
(b) What type of steroid is testosterone? Discuss the synthesis of testosterone from cholesterol.

(b) Discuss briefly the biosynthesis of steroids.

9. (a) What is Diel's Hydrocarbon? Write the synthesis of Diel's Hydrocarbon from 2, 5-dimethyl cyclopentanone.
(b) How can morphine be isolated from natural sources?
c) Discuss the mechanism of formation of mevalonic acid from acetyl-coenzyme.
(d) How will you estimate the number of -OCH3’ -OH and –NCH3 groups in natural products? Give the name of these methods.
