Time Allowed: Three Hours] [Maximum Marks: 20
Note: Attempt five questions. Question number 1 is compulsory. In addition to the compulsory questions, attempt four questions selecting one from each unit. Credit will be given to suitable maps and diagrams.
1. Answer any four of the following in 25-30 words each
(a) Define Cartography
(b) Map design
(c) Isobars
(d) Elements of weather
(e) Beaufort's scale
(f) Concept of GPS
UNIT-I
2. Compare and contrast the Cartography of the Medieval Period with the Modern Period.
3. What are maps? Describe the essentials of map design with a suitable diagram.
UNIT—II
4. How can the maps be enlarged and reduced? Discuss the various methods of enlargement and reduction of maps.
5. Define GPS. How could it be used for the mapping of physical and social infrastructure in a city?
UNIT-III
Define weather maps. Discuss the various climate elements represented in weather maps. Draw the symbols for the following and explain them briefly:
(i) Frost
(ii) Drizzle
(iii) Pure air
(iv) Sleet
UNIT-IV
Interpret the weather conditions from a weather map supplied to you. What is weather forecasting? Discuss the recent advances in weather forecasting.
